Taboola ads: what’s winning right now
Taboola places ads in the recommendation widgets under and beside articles on news and content sites, the rows of pictures and headlines that sit next to a publisher’s own stories. Advertisers buy them through Taboola’s self-serve platform, Realize. Because the ad sits among articles, the picture and headline have to earn the click the way a story would: a reader is browsing, not shopping.
What’s winning on Taboola right now
In the week of November 2, 2026, 1,380 of the 1,824 most-bought native ads we read ran on Taboola (76%), from 337 different advertisers. Half of them had been running for 20 days or more, and the typical headline was 60 characters long.
Winning formulas on Taboola this week
Each is the psychology and kind of photo several different advertisers keep paying for on Taboola, with how many use it and how long their ads have run. A winning formula is the idea, not anyone’s ad: make your own version for your product.
Product held in hand for scale
- 12 advertisers
- 19 ads
- 17 days running (median)
- Shopping & gadgets
- The product in a hand
Close-up shots of a small product held between fingers or in the palm to show size, detail and tactile appeal.
Isolated studio product shot
- 11 advertisers
- 18 ads
- 45 days running (median)
- Shopping & gadgets
- Clean product shots
Clean studio or gradient backgrounds that isolate a single product (or set of variants) so shape, color and specs are front-and-center.
Close-up cash or money imagery
- 8 advertisers
- 10 ads
- 46 days running (median)
- Finance & insurance
- Money, checks and benefits
Tight shots of bills, stacks, rolls, gold or money-counting machines that instantly signal payouts, savings or monetary value.
Watch the rules: Avoid anything that looks like an official notice, a government seal or a fake check: networks reject those.
Carefree moments of the target customer
- 8 advertisers
- 10 ads
- 13 days running (median)
- Seniors & Medicare
- The customer in a good moment
Shows older adults enjoying relaxed, social or joyful scenes to sell the desired 'after' lifestyle and emotional benefit of a product or service.
Watch the rules: Keep people fully dressed in ordinary poses: suggestive shots get rejected.
Side-by-side before/after comparisons
- 7 advertisers
- 24 ads
- 59 days running (median)
- Beauty & anti-aging
- Before-and-after comparisons
Shows a direct visual transformation (split, two-panel, or side-by-side) to promise visible results from the product or treatment, letting viewers quickly judge effectiveness.
Watch the rules: These are running on the networks right now, so a before/after in the same form is fair game. Keep it honest and no more extreme than the ones already running.

Taboola ad specs
From Taboola’s own help pages, checked October 2026. Networks change these, so check them in your account before a big upload.
| Image ratio | 16:9 preferred. 4:3 and 1:1 are accepted, and Taboola crops automatically unless you set the crop yourself. |
|---|---|
| Image size | 1200 x 674 px recommended in Realize’s help center (some newer Taboola articles say 1067 x 600). Minimum 400 x 350 px, and smaller images serve in fewer placements. |
| File | Up to 5 MB. JPEG preferred; PNG and GIF are accepted. |
| Title | 60 characters or fewer, because publishers’ widgets cut longer titles. Taboola’s own guide calls 34 to 45 characters the sweet spot. |
| Branding text | Up to 30 characters (the advertiser name shown under the title). |
| Text on the image | Keep it off. Taboola’s rules reject fake buttons and misleading overlays, and text is unreadable at widget size anyway. |
What we deliver: Every picture we make comes in four sizes from one image: 1200 x 674 (16:9) for Taboola, 1200 x 628 and 1200 x 1200 for Microsoft, and 1200 x 800 for Outbrain, Revcontent and MGID. The subject is kept in the centre so Taboola’s automatic crops to 4:3 and 1:1 still work. Headlines are written to 60 characters or fewer.

Rules that get Taboola ads rejected
The picture rules below come from Taboola’s published policies. Each comes with the fix we use when a winning idea breaks one: keep the idea, change how it’s shown.
Sexually suggestive pictures, nudity, or a focus on chest, cleavage, buttocks or midriff
Instead: Show the whole person, fully dressed, in an ordinary pose. Attractive is fine; provocative is not.
Misleading before-and-after pictures
Instead: Keep it honest and in the same form as the before-and-afters winners already run, never more extreme.
Gore, wounds, bodily fluids or graphic health conditions
Instead: Show the person living with the problem, or the everyday object tied to it, not the injury.
Fake interface elements: play buttons, warning icons, download buttons
Instead: Use a plain photograph with nothing drawn on it.
Exaggerated expressions and scare tactics
Instead: A calm, believable face reads as more trustworthy in a news feed anyway.
Celebrities or public figures without permission
Instead: Use an invented person or your own team.
Every network’s rules in one place: why native ads get rejected.
How to launch and test on Taboola
- Start with three to five pictures and two or three titles per campaign, so Realize has a few combinations to rotate.
- Pick one country and one device type for the first campaign, so the results are comparable.
- Give each picture enough spend to see a clear trend before judging it: a common rule of thumb is a few times your target cost per conversion.
- Pause the clear losers, keep the leaders, and add one new picture per round built on a winning formula from your space.
The step that matters most is the last one: a steady supply of new pictures built on what is already working. That is the part ConvertBetterAds does for you. See how to test native ads for the full method.

What image size should I use for Taboola ads?
Taboola recommends a 16:9 landscape image. Realize’s help center gives 1200 x 674 px as best practice, with a minimum of 400 x 350 px and files up to 5 MB, JPEG preferred. Keep the subject in the centre, because Taboola crops images to fit each placement.
How long can a Taboola title be?
Keep it to 60 characters or fewer. Title limits vary by publisher and placement, so Taboola recommends 60 characters so titles are not cut off, and calls 34 to 45 characters the best length.
Why was my Taboola ad rejected?
The most common reasons are pictures that are suggestive, graphic or misleading (including before-and-afters more extreme than the ones already running), fake buttons or warnings on the image, celebrity images without permission, and claims the landing page doesn’t back up. Our rejections guide lists each rule with the fix.
Can I use Taboola’s own AI to make ads?
Yes. Taboola offers built-in generative AI tools in Realize. They start from your own brand and landing page. ConvertBetterAds starts from the winning formulas in your space on native, and makes new ads for your business from those. Our comparison page explains when each makes sense.
