Native ad image sizes for every network

Every big native network wants a slightly different shape. Here are the image sizes, ratios, file limits and headline limits for Taboola, Microsoft, Outbrain, Revcontent and MGID from their own help pages (checked October 2026), and how to make one picture that fits all five.

One picture for all five networks

The trick is to plan for the tightest crop before you make the picture, not after. Every network crops to fit its widgets, and a square crop from the centre is the most any of them will take away. If the subject survives that, it survives everywhere.

  • Compose for the centre square. Put the face, product or moment in the middle third of a landscape frame, with calm space either side.
  • Start from one 3:2 master at 1200 x 800. It is Outbrain’s size, and every other shape is a trim of it: 16:9 and 1.91:1 lose a strip top and bottom, 4:3 and square lose the sides.
  • Work at 1200 px wide. That is at or above every network’s recommendation, and small enough to upload fast.
  • Export each shape yourself. A crop you chose beats an automatic one that cuts a head in half.
ShapeExportHow
16:9 (Taboola, MGID)1200 x 674Trim 63 px from the top and bottom of the 1200 x 800 master.
1.91:1 (Microsoft)1200 x 628Trim 86 px from the top and bottom of the 1200 x 800 master.
3:2 (Outbrain)1200 x 800The master itself.
4:3 (Revcontent)1067 x 800Trim 67 px from each side; stays above the 1000 x 750 minimum.
1:1 (Microsoft, and where accepted)800 x 800Only works if the subject sits in the centre square. Microsoft recommends 1200 x 1200, so start from a larger picture if you have one.

Size is the easy part

A picture at the right size can still be rejected or ignored. The rules that matter most are about what is in it: no text or buttons, nothing more extreme than the winners already run, and never nudity, gore, real recognisable people or official seals. See every rule. And the picture has to stop a reader who is browsing, not shopping, which is why we build each one on a winning formula from your space. The kinds of picture that keep winning.

What we deliver: every picture at 1200 x 674 (Taboola), 1200 x 628 (Microsoft, 1.91:1), 1200 x 1200 (Microsoft square, 1:1) and 1200 x 800 (Outbrain, Revcontent, MGID), all from one image with the subject kept in the centre square.

Questions

What is the standard native ad image size?

There isn’t one. Taboola prefers 16:9 at 1200 x 674, Microsoft needs a 1.91:1 image (1200 x 628 recommended) and a 1:1 image (1200 x 1200 recommended), Outbrain uses 1200 x 800 (3:2), Revcontent asks for 4:3 at least 1000 x 750, and MGID prefers 16:9 with a 640 x 360 minimum. Four versions of one picture, 1200 x 674, 1200 x 628, 1200 x 1200 and 1200 x 800, cover all five.

Can I use one image for every native network?

Yes, if the subject is in the centre and the picture passes the strictest rules (Outbrain’s and Revcontent’s). Export it in each network’s shape rather than letting every network crop it for you.

Should native ad images have text on them?

No. Outbrain advises against images with text, Microsoft asks for no text overlays on its audience ad images, Taboola rejects fake buttons and misleading overlays, and Revcontent rejects unnecessary or cut-off text. Words are unreadable at widget size anyway. Put them in the headline.

What file format should I use?

JPEG for photographs: every network accepts it and Taboola prefers it. PNG works but is heavier. Keep files well under each network’s limit; widgets are small and networks compress uploads.
